The club is delighted to announce the signing of experienced defender George Cox. Most recently with Worthing, where he was part of last season’s National League South title-winning squad, he previously played for Northampton Town and Swindon Town in the EFL, as well as for Fortuna Sittard and Volendam in the Eredivisie, the top flight of Dutch football.
Worthing born and bred, George came through the Brighton & Hove Albion academy and is friends with several of the current Hornets squad. His professional debut came at Northampton Town while on loan from the Albion, but he really established himself after signing for Sittard following a successful loan spell.
He made over 100 appearances for Fortuna before switching to Volendam, where he turned out 23 times in the 2023-24 season. A return to England followed, with a season at Swindon in 2024-25 in which he featured 26 times, before signing for his hometown club in October 2025.
Dom Di Paola expressed his delight at capturing the signature of a player with such an impressive CV.
“He’s got real quality and pedigree and has had a good career at a high level. He knows Barks [Danny Barker] and Meeky [Reece Meekums] from being at Brighton together, so he’ll slot straight into the group. He lives locally and his children go to school in Horsham, so it’s a perfect fit for him and us.”
Welcome to the Hornets, George!
