Woking’s Cards were dealt an FA Cup knockout by Horsham’s own ace in the pack, Tom Kavanagh, as the Hornets recorded a famous victory to progress through to the first round of the FA Cup for only the fourth time in their history.

The summer signing, for whom this will be an incredible fifth appearance in the first round ‘proper’, struck the game’s decisive goal just three minutes from the end of an enthralling encounter with the National League high-flyers, sending a sublime free-kick into the net from twenty-five yards.

Although dominating the game territorially, a near full-strength Woking were unable to breakdown a home defence that battled manfully throughout and were made to regret missing a couple of gilt-edged second half chances. Horsham were not without their own chances, though, with the hard-working Eddie Dsane missing the best of them in the first half.

Wow, what a tremendous achievement !!
Its taken seven games but the Hornets have made it- through to the FA Cup 1st round proper, canโ€™t quite believe it . Letโ€™s hope that ball number 64 is paired with one of the big boys.

I was in the crowd when Horsham beat Hastings United in the 4Q Rd.
Horsham then went onto to play Swindon Town then of the Third Division.
The Horns were not disgraced. but eventually going down 3-0.
It was not often you were encouraged to get to the ground an hour and a half before kick off!

I was there too – Mick Mears waking the winning goal in the shed end – the corragated back wall was almost kicked down!

As usual, great match reporting. Reading it was like watching it again. Well done to the lads for a superb effort, I hope you get a top team in the next round as your deserved reward.
Also, thanks to all at the club, it was great to be in such a big crowd and the arrangements for us were well organised.
