Whilst some of our youth sides returned to friendly action after the enforced shutdown, Alex Bethell’s U16s have had the rather more serious matter of their continued participation in the Mid-Sussex Youth League Cup to contend with.
With the Covid pandemic having brought league football to a premature close for a second successive season, it was with some surprise that the MSYFL took the decision to continue with the final stages of their primary cup competition. However our young Hornets, playing up an age group this season for increased competitiveness, rose to the occasion by thrashing Eastbourne Borough 6-1 away from home to set up a meeting with Alfold in last night’s final.
Yet sadly the tie, played at Oakwood FC, proved to be a step too far for our lads who conceded an early goal and were hit by a cruel second, late in the game, as they pushed forward in search of an equalising goal.
Our congratulations go to Alex and the whole squad for a magnificent effort in reaching the final and, of course, to Alfold for their success.
