We can confirm that first team assistant manager Ross Standen has joined Whitehawk as their new first team manager.

Standen joined the Hornets in May earlier this year, having spent four months as Lewes’ caretaker manager last season, replacing Adam Westwood who stepped down in March.

Ross has had a long affiliation with the Hawks, making over 400 appearances as a goalkeeper down at the Brighton-based club. He was also assistant manager under Darren Freeman as they rose from the Sussex County League to National League South.

First team manager Dom Di Paola said: “We thank him for his efforts and we wish him luck in a job he’s always wanted.”

A spokesperson from the board said: “Ross has only been with the club for a short while but he quickly proved to be a popular member of Dom’s team who went out of his way to make friends with everyone he met.

“Whilst we are sad to lose him so soon, he obviously has great affection for Whitehawk where he spent so long as a player and I am sure that he will make a success of his new challenge.

“He leaves with our thanks and best wishes.”
