Horsham’s youth squads didn’t disappoint on a near full-programme of youth football yesterday, with only one of our sides failing to pick up a victory.
On a cracking day in which the weather matched the free-flowing football on show at the home of the Hornets, our U16s kicked off proceedings with a Mid-Sussex League Cup tie against Peacehaven & Telscombe. The match started evenly but as the Hornets got into their stride they took control of the game and came out 3-0 winners to move into the next round and a meeting with Haywards Heath. Scorers: L Jones (2), A Maguire
Our U16s Arun & Chichester League squad were up next and were edged out by Littlehampton Town by the narrowest of margins, losing a thrilling match 5-4. Meetings with Littlehampton have always provided a good contest and this latest affair was no different, with H Hay (2), A Fitter and M Fitzsimmons scoring the Horsham goals.
The U11s took to the road and returned from Bognor with a great win in their first Coral Cup fixture of the campaign, ahead of next week’s meeting with Worthing town Blue. Our U12s were also in cup action in the WJ Jewel Trophy Sussex County Cup, away to Hollingbury Hawks, where a hat-trick by R Moratalla and further goals from J Dodd, Z Langford, T Jacobs, S Abrehart and S Painter saw the Hornets come away with an 8-1 win to set up a meeting with Three Bridges in the next round.
Down at Lancing the U13s produced a fantastic win, coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2. Lancing established their lead early on but two goals in a minute from B Shorey and P Tatum put the side on terms by half-time, with Tatum grabbing the winner six minutes from time. Meanwhile the U17s reinforced their place at the top of the Mid-Sussex League table with a convincing 4-0 victory at Tunbridge Wells Foresters, who drop to the bottom of the early league table after a fourth successive defeat. Z Beg (2), M Morris and J Simpson scored the goals.
