All the Horsham Youth squads were in action yesterday as the Arun & Chichester League got underway, and what a bumper weekend it turned out to be!
Five squads were on home turf, with the Hornets’ U13s kicking off their league campaign against Chichester City Youth. And what a performance Sam Jones’ produced as goals from substitute C Webb (2), defender B Shorey, P Tatum, L Armstrong and A Gregory saw them to a convincing 6-1 win.
The U12s were also in action on the Jack Scrase Community Pitch, playing their first competitive match in Horsham colours after moving up from the development leagues, and they marked the occasion in style, winning 7-1 against Pagham. The goals were scored by Z Langford and O Strudwick, who scored two goals apiece, M,Plintson, S Abrehart and J York.
In the Mid-Sussex League, our U16s were up against East Grinstead Town. It was a tough encounter but the side worked really hard and remain unbeaten in their first three matches with a 3-1 victory, courtesy of goals from F Mills, J Hayes, and L Harrison. High noon saw our newly-formed side this season, the U11s, win their first match under the Horsham FC name while the U14s capped off a highly satisfactory day at the Camping World Community Stadium with a very high tempo match against Chichester City Colts Red in which L Medrow scored the Hornets’ goal in a 1-1 draw.
The stadium was a hive of activity all day and a big thank you goes to all the volunteers that helped keep everyone as safe as possible.
Our two travelling sides didn’t disappoint either, with our U16 Arun & Chichester League representatives edging out Worthing United by three goals to two, helped by goals from T Stowell, A Nicholls and S Berry, and our U17s winning a tight Mid-Sussex League Cup tie at Lewes by the same score. C Gibson (2) and N Massimo scored the goals that takes the Hornets through to a second round meeting with Willingdon Athletic.
