Horsham Youth got off to winning ways today with both squads in the Mid-Sussex Youth Football League recording opening day victories.
On a beautiful day at the Camping World Community Stadium, disturbed only by a short rain shower, both the U15 and U16 squads gave the supporters something to to be proud of as they made light of playing in the respective higher age group by netting three points each.
Alex Bethell’s side were on first, playing their U16 Division One match against a depleted Newhaven side who arrived with just ten players due to injury and unavailability. The visitors were physical, and first on the scoresheet, but the young Hornets battled well and once they got into their stride they ran out 5- 3 winners with two goals each from Stan Berry and Alfie Maguire and the other from Zach Jeanes. The side are in action again on Wednesday evening when they travel to Alfold for a 7pm kick off.
Tunbridge Wells side Langton Green were Horsham’s U17 opponents for the first match of the new season and both teams played some good football in a very tight and competitive match that kept the spectators entertained throughout. But it was Hornets who came out on top, recording a very satisfying 2-1 victory thanks to goals from James Archard and Louis Moger (pictured). Next Match: Wednesday away at local rivals Roffey FC, 6pm ko
