The Hornets moved into previously uncharted territory this evening as Jack Brivio’s fourth goal in three matches put his side in to the semi-finals of the League Cup for the first time at the expense of a Margate side who played for the majority of the second half with just ten men.

The Horsham captain scored after just seven minutes, converting a pinpoint cross by Steve Metcalf, only to limp out of the game just after the midway point of the first half. With Alex Kelly and, later, Rob O’Toole also picking up knocks, the Hornets struggled to impose themselves fully after the break, even after Margate skipper Ben Swift was sent off for an alleged stamping incident, and were fortunate to escape when Noel Leighton shot narrowly past the post in the closing stages.

Dom Di Paola’s side join Bracknell Town, Cheshunt and either Brightlingsea Regent, Folkestone Invicta or Basildon United in the last four of the competition.
