U15 Mid-Sussex League Division One
Sunday 23rd February
Match 1: Three Bridges Youth 0 Horsham Amber 1
Match 2: Horsham Amber 5 Three Bridges Youth 0
Horsham deservedly claimed six points in a double header at the Camping World Community Stadium.
It was clear that both sides hadn’t played much football in recent weeks due to the bad weather, with heavy touches and wayward passes aplenty. As the game settled, Horsham started to gain the upper hand, with Henry Hazell looking sharp in centre-midfield and Max Warren’s pace creating openings. However, Amber couldn’t find the net. Zain Beg, Josh Mamo, Charlie Gibson and Isaac Small all came close, and Hazell forced a decent save with his curling strike after leaving two defenders in his wake. Bridges competed well in midfield and came close to capitalising on a defensive error before Max Morris hooked clear. But Horsham were the better side and scored in the latter stages when a driven cross by the outstanding Hazell was met by Joe Simpkin.
The second match was a more one-sided affair, with Horsham dominating a weakened opponent.
With Morris injured, Louis Moger earned his first start for Horsham and settled in well in the heart of midfield alongside playmaker Alfie Clifford. Nico Massimo played a full match, too, and showed fine touches as the holding striker.
Beg eased nerves by scoring early, meeting Simpkin’s corner with a smart finish, before Simpkin’s scooped left-footed strike from 18 yards sailed into the top corner. In the second half, the floodgates opened, with Beg rounding the ‘keeper for his second before Warren grabbed the goal his own tireless performance deserved. Simpkin had the final word, claiming a hat-trick for the afternoon with a goal of the season contender, his 35-yard strike rifling into the top corner. Charlie Gibson also deserves a special mention as his intelligent passing created countless chances on the left wing.
