It was a weekend washout as far as Horsham’s youth teams was concerned, with just two of our sides able to complete their matches.
It didn’t start well, with U15 Greens’ Arun & Chichester League fixture with Worthing and the U14s’ Mid-Sussex clash with Crawley Down called off on Saturday with their opponents unable to raise a side The bad weather ruled out any action at Rustington, where both our U11s and U12s were due to have faced the Otters, and it was the same story at Seaford to the frustration of Premier United and our own U15 Ambers.
In the action that did take place, our U13s narrowly lost 2-1 at home to Worthing Town Blue but there was better news as the U16s made it through to the semi-finals of the Mid-Sussex League Cup with victory over East Grinstead. With the Wasps’ ground deemed unplayable, the quarter-final tie was switched to the CWCS and the Hornets made home advantage tell by putting in a great performance to run out convincing 6-1 winners. Ben Auberey (4), Diego Carmo and Ayo Oluwa Oke scored Horsham’s goals, with Marko Panoutsos scoring the U13s’ consolation in that Worthing loss.
