Calling all Horsham fans! Your support will be hugely welcomed as our ‘Young Hornets’ face arguably their biggest match of the season thus far, our eagerly anticipated Wednesday night County Cup semi-final clash with near neighbours Loxwood.
Loxwood’s U23s play in the John Bennett Development division of the Combined Counties League and currently stand in 8th position out of 10 teams. However it is difficult to gauge much from this as only a quarter of the league fixtures have so far been fulfilled, due to multiple postponed matches in the last 6 weeks or so. Perhaps a better yardstick by which to assess the strength of the young Magpies team would be to note that in the previous round they defeated Hassocks, conqueror of the Hornets’ Bluefin Development League rivals Three Bridges earlier in the competition.
It is worth noting, too, that under the enthusiastic leadership of popular chairman Mark Lacey, Loxwood have developed an enviable reputation for their development of their young players in recent seasons, such as midfielder Sam Beard who now plies his trade with Conference South side Dorking Wanderers. Having watched our opponents recently, the Hornets should expect a tough match.
The Magpies are well organised, with a good defence, and it should be a really exciting game, especially as Horsham are in good form. Unbeaten in five matches, Mark Hawthorne’s side currently sit in 4th spot, just a point behind leaders Phoenix Sports having beaten the Kent club back in November. So if you can come along Wednesday night to cheer on the lads it will be great to see you there.
