Four long weeks have passed since Mark Hawthorne’s U23 squad last kicked a ball in anger, and now that the excitement of the festive period has given way, it’s time to get back to competitive football as we welcome South Park U23s to the Camping World Community Stadium on Monday evening.
Back in late September the young Hornets returned from Whitehall lane with all three points after winning an exciting, if somewhat feisty, encounter 3-2 with goals from Archie Goddard (2) and Mateius Mulugeta. Since then they’ve gone on to accumulate 17 points from their 10 league games to date, and sit a creditable 3rd in the South Division table.
The Sparks haven’t fared so well, picking up only 3 points at home and 4 away in their 8 league games so far. Horsham will be wary though of the only side to have inflicted a home defeat on reigning champions, Tooting and Mitcham United, and who have prepared for their game at the CWCS by playing Sutton Common Rovers U23s in a 3-1 friendly defeat on Saturday.
While offensively Horsham have been in rude health, Archie Goddard leading the division’s goal scorers chart with 11 of the 26 goals scored, the coaches will be keen to see an improvement defensively to the 23 goals conceded so far this season in a bid to manage games to a successful conclusion. If the first half of the season is any measure though, fans may well witness a game where we see another average of almost 5 goals!
Kick-off at the Camping World Community Stadium is 7.45pm, with admission just £4 Adults, £2 Concessions, £1 U16s
