Sunday 5th January
Sussex Stan Beattie Memorial Trophy (U15 County Cup quarter-final)
East Grinstead Town U15 1 Horsham U15 Amber 0

Horsham Amber were knocked out of the County Cup on Sunday in a physical encounter at East Grinstead. The game was largely a midfield battle, with both sides finding goalscoring chances hard to come by. The only goal came during a period in which the home team were temporarily down to ten men and came courtesy of a superb 20 yard strike that left ‘keeper Will Scurr with no chance.

It was tough on Amber’s back line, which performed brilliantly against strong, pacey opponents. Alfie Clifford was as determined as ever in central midfield and Max Warren never gave up on the right wing, but Amber’s creative players couldn’t find a decisive pass or conjure a moment of magic on the few occasions that opportunities came their way. However, Zain Beg was unfortunate to see his chipped effort saved by East Grinstead’s towering ‘keeper.

Despite the bitter disappointment, to have been edged by a fine strike on a day when several key players struggled to influence the game suggests that Amber will bounce back quickly.

Horsham: Will Scurr – Phelan Jeffery, Josh Mamo, Alfie Furneaux, Max Morris, Max Warren, Alfie Clifford, Henry Hazell, Charlie Gibson, Zain Beg, Joe Simpkin
Subs: Leighton Read, Isaac Small
