Horsham slipped to third in the league as table toppers Folkestone Invicta inflicted a 2-1 loss on Dom Di Paola’s depleted side in Kent.
An eventful afternoon saw The Hornets bemoan bad luck, poor finishing and rash decision making as Chris Smith spurned a fantastic chance to take an early lead when he missed an open goal, having rounded goalkeeper Harry Newcombe, while in the second half, George Bentley kept the scores level when he saved from Jerson Dos Santos’ penalty. Invicta would be awarded a second spot kick soon afterwards that Ira Jackson would go onto convert, while Horsham found themselves with an uphill battle when Joe Shelley slid into his own net with 12 minutes remaining.
However Gary Charman gave Horsham hope of an unlikely comeback when he headed in two minutes later to set up a nervous finale for the home side, who held on to inflict back to back league defeats on The Hornets since the start of last season.
