Fresh off the back of their dramatic Sussex U23s Challenge Cup triumph over Eastbourne Town on Monday night, Mark Hawthorne’s young Horsham development squad make the journey east to Sittingbourne’s Woodstock Park on Thursday for their latest Bluefin Sports Insurance League South fixture.
The Brickies sit in eight place in the table, having played two games less than Horsham, winning three of their six games and losing the other three. Neither side seem to have trouble finding the net during their league games, with Sittingbourne scoring 19 in six and Horsham 20 in eight, but both are also leaky at the back, conceding 19 and 18 respectively, so Thursday’s encounter should, on paper, have plenty of goals in it.
The Hornets will be hoping to maintain some good recent form and stay in touch with league leaders Hastings United, and second placed Phoenix Sports, who have recently opened up a gap at the top of the table. They’ll be led up front by 17 year old Archie Goddard, recently named in Dom Di Paola’s first team Sussex senior cup squad, who, despite not featuring down at Littlehampton Town on Tuesday night, will be keen to continue his goal scoring exploits and keep himself firmly in the thoughts of the first team manager. Keeping goal will be 16 year old Seb Jacobides, who has impressed since making his debut against Carshalton Athletic, and both players should be an inspiration to the club’s youth section as they highlight the pathway to senior football.
Kick off at Woodstock Park, Sittingbourne is at 7.45pm and, if you can’t be there personally, be sure to follow the Twitter updates @HorshamFC23s
