Alex Kelly and George Bentley saved Horsham’s blushes as they survived a testing night at Littlehampton to secure their place in the last eight of the Parafix Sussex Senior Cup.

It was an underpar performance for the Hornets, who trailed the Southern Combination League Division One leaders from the 40th minute when Dan Swain converted from a corner, and it looked like they would be bowing out of the competition until Kelly popped up with his first goal in our colours, a minute from time, That sent the tie into an additional half hour, during which Harry Mills went closest to finding a winner when his shot came back off both posts, but with neither side able to find the breakthrough the freezing supporters were faced with a penalty shoot-out.

Horsham were successful with their four attempts but, crucially, Bentley saved twice to send the Isthmian Leaguers through to the quarter-finals.
