Horsham U16 8 East Grinstead Town 0
Mid-Sussex League Division One
After a thirteen day lay-off, the Hornets welcomed the Wasps of East Grinstead Town to The Camping World Community Stadium for this tough encounter in the Mid Sussex league campaign.
The start could not have been a sweeter one for Horsham when Aden Radojevic delivered a deep corner kick for Ben Auberey to launch himself into a superb diving header to fire the ball home in the opening minutes. This early lead seemed to surprise the home side and it certainly stirred the Wasps’ nest as they started to create some opportunities. But the yellows’ defence stood firm with some great interceptions, aided by some solid goal keeping from Dylan Bond. The game was end-to-end as the first half reached the mid-point, before it sprang into an exciting feast of football when Radojevic showed his strength when he muscled away from the East Grinstead defender to create a one-on-one, enabling him to fire into the bottom corner. This then produced another quick goal, when Auberey grabbed his second as he won the ball well to slot home past the very good Wasps keeper
The Hornets were buzzing going into the second half and despite some early pressure from the Wasps it was the yellows who grabbed the important fourth when Zach Hobson Hughes delivered a delightful cross for Auberey to smash home for his hat-trick, 4-0. Horsham grew in stature, their dominance told, and when Radojevic burst into the East Grinstead penalty area, he was fouled for a penalty that Auberey stepped up to smash past the ‘keeper.
It was also from this deadly duo that the next goal came. The yellows were swarming all over the Wasps, allowing Auberey to turn provider when he slipped the ball through for Radojevic to finish neatly for his second and Horsham’s sixth. Personnel changes were made, as players coming back from injury were getting valuable match fitness, but the Hornets’ grip on the game did not falter, Auberey this timed providing a great pull back from deep to find Tom Ayling who scored a delightful goal.
Just like the start of the game, there was another delightful goal to entertain the watching crowd. The ball was won in midfield allowing Gui Costa to gather it and, from 25 yards out, he produced a stunning shot that flew over the Wasps keeper into the net to make the final score 8-0 to Horsham.
Manager Dixie Laker was full of praise. “Credit goes to the lads. They were different class today, against a good East Grinstead side who did create a few problems for us, but our boys took on board the drills we have been working on in training and put them into practice today. It was a pleasure to watch and witness the squad grow in development and belief”
