Horsham Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Craig Brewster as Director of Football.

Craig, 52, has an outstanding record as a football professional. He started his playing career at Forfar Athletic before moving on to Raith Rovers, Dundee United (twice, scoring the winning goal in the 1994 Scottish Cup Final), Ionikos (Greece), Hibernian, Dunfermline Athletic, Inverness Caledonian Thistle (twice), Aberdeen and Ross County. In all he made some 700 first team appearances.

His first management role was at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, returning for a second time after a short spell at Dundee United, before becoming Caretaker Manager at Crawley Town and Assistant Manager at Plymouth Argyll. He has also had many coaching roles, returning to Crawley Town this year and previously with Brighton & Hove Albion Under 15s, Eastbourne Borough and Whitehawk. Currently Craig works with former Hornets manager Anthony Storey at the All Stars Academy in Eastbourne. He lives in Horsham.

The Club has come a long way since it was relegated in 2015. Under the guidance of first team manager Dom Di Paola, the Hornets immediately returned to the Isthmian League, gaining promotion to the Premier Division this season.

This has coincided with a move into the fantastic new Camping World Community Stadium which boasts two 3G FIFA Pro pitches and everything is going well both on and off the field. Attendances at first-team matches have exceeded expectations, demonstrating real interest and excitement amongst the local community in the return of its local club to the town after years of ground-sharing elsewhere and the team currently stands proudly at the top of the table. The Club also has a new Under 23 team that is well placed in the Isthmian Development League together with a thriving youth section and is able to share its playing and training facilities with other local teams.

This success has seen the Club grow significantly in very short order. The Board sees this as an opportunity to plan for the future and develop Horsham FC into a Club that offers both high quality entertainment for its supporters and opportunities for youngsters and others within the community to realise their potential. It aspires to be a Club that is admired throughout the county as a model that others will wish to emulate in terms of its football and coaching.

Craig will work with first team Manager Dom Di Paola and coaches across the Club to create and deliver a strategy which achieves these aims, reporting to the Board on all football matters.

On his appointment, Craig said: “I’m very honoured to be given this exciting opportunity to become Director of Football at Horsham Football Club. I’m really looking forward to working closely with everyone at the club from the Board of Director to the 1st Team, U23’s, all the Youth Teams and all Staff Members.  It’s an exciting project for myself to use my wealth of knowledge and experience I’ve gained throughout my long professional career to help provide a pathway for those exciting young players to make that journey into the Horsham FC 1st team or even onto the next level in a professional career. Having been in and around the club recently, I’m enthused to see the potential the club and the facility has to offer the local community and look forward to helping contribute to further success. ”

Club CEO John Lines said of Craig’s appointment: “Craig’s appointment as Director of Football at Horsham Football Club serves to underline our commitment to football in the community.  He has wide professional experience in Coaching, in Management and with Youth Football and we are fully confident that his input will benefit the Club throughout the entire spectrum of our set up.  It is a fantastic opportunity for Horsham to have someone with Craig’s qualities and experience on board to look at what we can offer to youngsters and our more experienced players alike.   Our greatest wish is to bring young local players through our youth ranks into our senior set-up and Craig has the energy, enthusiasm and professional experience to help our established Coaches do just that.  I am looking forward to working with him.”
