Sunday 17th November
Mid Sussex League Division One
A superb defensive display ensured that Horsham claimed three points after a spirited second half comeback from the visitors. Stand-in captain Alfie Furneaux and defensive partner Josh Mamo were outstanding against a strong Peacehaven attack, while Will Scurr pulled off a fantastic late save.
It had all been very different in the first half, when Amber dominated in possession. Henry Hazell, who led the line superbly, drilled home a 20-yard free kick to give Amber the lead. He then doubled the advantage when a brilliant team move involving Max Morris and Max Warren ended with Zain Beg’s intelligent cut-back to his strike partner. Amber spurned two great opportunities to effectively kill the game in the second half. However, the visitors undoubtedly had the best of the play after the break and were rejuvenated when a deflected free-kick crept past Scurr. They fought hard for an equaliser, but it was a day when Horsham’s strength at the back proved the difference between victory and defeat.
