A routine win earned Horsham Amber a place in the 3rd round of the County Cup, where they will host Hangleton Rangers. But despite the margin of victory, Amber’s win was marred by an injury to top scorer Conner Collcutt which hopefully is not as bad as feared.

Without Collcutt, and with Joe Simpkin also injured before half time, Zain Beg stepped forward, netting four times, including a clinical opener. Max Warren was in scintillating form, scoring a superb solo goal before presenting Nico Massimo with the simplest of headers to make it 3-0. Horsham spurned several good opportunities before Beg found the net, latching on to a delightful dinked scooped pass by Isaac Small and Josh Mamo added a fifth just before the break.

With the game effectively over, Amber didn’t play with the same intensity in the second half. Yet Beg still added two more, Small hit a thunderous strike to cap a fine game and Mamo rose highest to nod home late on. Henry Hazell was not amongst the goals but his work-rate in central midfield was impressive. The back line of Phelan Jeffery, Alfie Furneaux and Max Morris was typically assured and Furneaux came agonisingly close to grabbing a rare goal too.

Horsham: Will Scurr, Isaac Small, Alfie Furneaux, Phelan Jeffery, Max Morris, Max Warren, Josh Mamo, Joe Simpkin, Henry Hazell, Conner Collcott, Zain Beg
Subs: Nico Massimo, Charlie Gibson, Leighton Read
