Horsham’s U16s were back home as they welcomed St Francis Rangers to The Camping World Community Stadium today and they began brightly, moving the ball well from side to side and using the overlap and underlap extremely well without finding the early breakthrough.
As the first half was drawing on it was becoming a frustrating game, despite the good work being put in by the Hornets, but on 24 minutes Diego Carmo found the key to unlock the Rangers defence. A wonderful long, diagonal ball found Ryan Baldwin in the left channel and he drove forward to cut the ball back to Aden Radojevic who fired home.
This goal certainly settled the yellows down and they soon added another when Callum Chesworth drove towards the St Francis penalty area and was bundled over, earning his side free-kick. Sam Andrews delivered a perfect set piece for Baldwin to head home, giving Horsham a 2-0 half-time lead.
The second half started in a similar fashion to the first, the Hornets continuing to knock on the door but unable to find the killer finish to add to their two-goal lead. They kept probing, with some well delivered corners and clever crosses when working the ball wide, however it was not proving successful. Then, midway through the half, a lovely ball from defence found Radojevic and he saw the overlapping run of Baldwin who was played in wide and then cut the ball back for Radojevic to slot home for his second of the game.
This was now comfortable for the yellows and as the game was drawing to a close a shot from Gui Costa was parried by the Rangers keeper, allowing Harvey Woollard to follow up to stab home Horsham’s fourth. This was how the game finished, seeing the yellows keep another clean sheet in this league victory.
Manager Dixie Laker was very pleased. “Today was a great team performance. We passed the ball well and things we worked on came off today. If the lads keep training hard, and listen to our instructions, I feel we can step up to another level again. We are getting better each week and if we continue to develop, these lads could go on to special things this season”
