Horsham remain in second spot, despite being held to a 1-1 draw against last season’s Division One South-East champions Cray Wanderers last night. The visitors began well but both defences dominated until former Cray captain Lea Dawson put the Hornets ahead, rather against the run of play, when he stole in to head home Charlie Harris’ free-kick on 35 minutes. However, the lead lasted barely two minutes as the visitors forced a corner that was turned in by Jay Leader and, thereafter, the half became a rather fractious affair with three of the game’s eight yellow cards dished out by referee Alex Mathieson.
Horsham were the more dominant force after the break but both sides had chances to claim the winner, the best of which saw Harris’ thunderous free-kick pushed over the bar by goalkeeper Lewis Carey and Joe Taylor fire wide.
