Our U12s produced another confidence-boosting away win against a physically strong Worthing Minors.
The hosts had the best of the early part of the first half. Zac R made a superb save in the opening minutes, tipping a high looping shot over the bar with a strong hand to prevent Minors from opening the scoring. Both teams battled and scrapped for the next 20 minutes, with strong midfield performances from Jack McM, Liam B, Charlie L & Alfie. Adam’s speed on the left flank was the key attacking force during the first half and it was he who opened the scoring, 8 minutes before the break, shooting centrally as the Minors’ ‘keeper and defence struggled to contain the attack. Just before half-time, late substitute Dan B had a goal disallowed for offside but the game was far from over at 0-1 to Horsham at the change of ends.
Manager Sam Jones changed the formation in the second half, introducing Tom up front and doubling the attacking force. This had an immediate effect as both Dan B and Tom hassled the defence at every opportunity, leading to Horsham’s second and third goals.
Minors lost the ball deep in their half, Dan B put Tom through on goal and his shot hammered the back of the net. Dan H and Josh re-joined to put even more attacking pressure on Worthing. Tom scored Horsham’s third after a similar pressured move to the second goal and Josh added a fourth goal with a few minutes remaining with a looping shot that cleared the ‘keeper and dropped in to the back of the net.
