Horsham had to dig deep to secure the points and maintain their 100% start to the season at a windy Piddinghoe Park. Despite missing several key players, the boys demonstrated the strength of the squad, with Phelan Jeffery particularly outstanding at centre-half alongside the ever-reliable Alfie Furneaux.

Peacehaven edged the opening exchanges, with Will Scurr making a fine save to deny their powerful striker. But it was Amber who broke the deadlock, with Conner Collcutt firing home after Joe Simpkin’s smart back-heel. The impressive Simpkin added the second, latching on to a clever, quickly-taken free-kick by Henry Hazell and poking home.

In the second half, Amber conceded during a goalmouth scramble and the home side chased an equaliser. But Amber’s defence rose to the challenge before Collcutt rifled home his second to settle nerves. The Hornets were reduced to ten men but Horsham might have added a fourth goal but Hazell was very unfortunate to see his last-minute strike ruled out for offside.

The win puts Horsham Amber 2 points clear at the top of the Division One table after 4 games.
