Following the recent problems surrounding the football club’s intentions to host a showing of acclaimed play ‘The Red Lion’, we feel it appropriate to share with our supporters this note received from organisers Horsham District Council.
“I am writing to you following the difficulties we encountered on Friday with the performance of The Red Lion. It was a very unfortunate situation and I can only apologise that full and proper investigations of the space were not undertaken prior to the event at the touring venues across the District. Clearly this should have happened and our production team should not have been put in the position as they were where it would have been impossible to construct our play set.
I’m pleased to say that the performance at the Capitol studio was extremely well received and that at least some of the ticket holders who had planned to come to the ground made it to the Capitol. This project has proved to be something of a learning curve for us and I’m sorry if you feel that your new club has been a guinea pig by taking part. As I think I made clear when I came up on Friday, it was my first visit to your facilities and whilst I didn’t see inside, I was very impressed with the layout and facilities that I did see. I can imagine you drawing a decent crowd and creating a wonderful atmosphere for your matches.
I don’t think the performance not being able to take place will reflect badly on the club, as it was our logistical issue and lack of forethought that caused the problem and as there were a small number of people involved, I am sure that you will be able to move forward with other events without any ill will.
Once the Red Lion project has completed, the Council will undertake a review of the project and I can assure you that Friday will be included in that review.
Please pass on my apologies on behalf of the Council to your Club colleagues and if you have anyone who would like to catch the play at one of the other venues, please do let me know.”
