With the start of the new Isthmian League season just ten days away, Dom Di Paola is left sweating on the fitness of three key players after last night’s friendly that saw the Hornets hit a late equaliser to take a share of the spoils at East Grinstead Town. Lee Harding, Harry Mills and Will Miles are all facing a battle to be fit for the season’s opening fixture with Leatherhead on August 10th with the manager admitting that all three are unlikely to feature in Saturday’s final preparation match away to Burgess Hill Town.
Harding picked up a knock midway through the first half of the 2-2 draw at College Lane and was forced out of the match while Harry Mills was left feeling the effects of a pulled hamstring problem that Di Paola admits makes the full-back ‘touch and go’ for the visit of the Tanners. Miles, who played just seven games for the club before succumbing to an old injury last season, remains some way short of full fitness and will be assessed over the next week. Kieran Lavery and Rob O’Toole (pictured) scored the Hornets goals, with Zack Newton missing a first half penalty.
The Hornets travel to the Green Elephants Stadium on Saturday for their final friendly, kick-off 3pm.
