With the opening of our new ground growing ever closer, it is understandable that supporters of the club might want to take a sneak preview of how the ground is coming along, but when Committee member Matt Dale turned up on Saturday morning to take a look, he wasn’t quite expecting a visitor from the far east to be there.

It was none other than former full-back, PhilΒ Skingsley paying a visit to the town having emigrated to Thailand several years ago and he couldn’t resist popping down to see how the ground was progressing and was full ofΒ praise with what he saw.

“it’s looking marvellous! It’s great that the club will finally be able to call this home and the crowds and income boosts the club will receive will really lift everyone here” he said. Despite now living nearly 6000 miles away, Phil revealed he was constantly in touch with Horsham’s results via the club’s Twitter account, while some supporters may recall a recent interview that was published in April 2017 in our match day programme vs Sittingbourne when he recounted his memories at the club, including the controversy surrounding his departure in 1969, after a training ground altercation with a teammate saw him depart Queen Street.

Phil made ninety-five appearances for Horsham between 1967 and 1969 and scored one goal for the club.

An assortment of new photos of the ground and clubhouse can be found here.
