On an otherwise weather-spoilt Sunday, Horsham’s U13s provided a ray of sunshine by lifting the Arun & Chichester League Cup with a sparkling display against Rustington Otters. Played at Worthing’s Woodside Road, the tie was expected to be a close one with the two sides boasting similar records but the Hornets’ coaching team got their tactics spot on and the team got their rewards for some fabulous and entertaining football that saw them run in five unanswered goals. Nathan Jones and Frankie Mills both scored twice, and Danny White got the other, to the delight of their supporters. Congratulations boys. We hope to post a full report on the youth pages asap.

With the rain and strong winds putting paid to the matches involving our U11s, U12s and U14 Amber, our only other representatives were U14 Green, who were also in the seaside town to take on Worthing Town Red. Even this match needed a couple of pitch inspections before the Arun & Chichester League match could go ahead although the Hornets would surely not have complained had it been postponed, having travelled down with some key players missing. Yet they put in a valiant effort, even going down to ten men through injury, but Sam McMinn’s goal proved to be just a consolation as Worthing ran out 4-1 winners.
