Horsham Youth U13s continued their stop / start schedule to 2019 with an away trip to the south coast and Hill Barn Rec, on a glorious Sunday morning. The young Hornets started well on a small, tight pitch, passing the ball around nicely but only able to create several long-range efforts on goal, that the stand-in goalkeeper did very well to palm away. As the half wore on Horsham changed formation and this created the breakthrough when a shot from Zach Jeanes was palmed away into the path of Nathan Jones, who coolly slotted home. Worthing did not give up and always looked likely to grab something but the Horsham defence stood firm and prevented any meaningful attempt on their goal, protecting Monty the Horsham shot stopper. As the first half wore on, Horsham had several chances to increase their lead, however the ‘keeper and defence were in good form to snuff out the shots, which started to frustrate the young Horsham side.

The second half started similar to the first but Worthing then got a penalty kick, which they slotted wide of the post. This stirred the yellows into life and soon after the penalty miss Horsham grabbed a second goal when Frankie Mills volleyed home a stunning effort from outside the box. This took the wind out of the Worthing sails and when Danny White gained some serious air-time to head home a Joe Sherwood corner. The Horsham onslaught did not stop and Dennis Light scored a delightful goal from just inside the Worthing area into the top corner. This did not stop Horsham pushing on and when some great passing allowed Zach to see goal he calmly fired home for Horsham’s fifth, allowing them to come out comfortable 5-0 winners.

Manager Paul Brown was very pleased “The boys put in some hard work, especially as we had not played for four weeks. Ahead of our cup final on the 3rd March we could not ask for any more, they listened at half time and followed our instructions, allowing them to score good goals and create many more chances. We now look ahead and hope to get the squad in fine tune for our date with destiny.”
