The second game in the Emerald cup saw the young Hornets travel to the south coast to face Lancing with hopes of continuing their unbeaten run in the new league.
With the rain and wind making things very difficult from the off, it only took Tom two minutes to get on the scoresheet yet again this week, followed by another goal six minutes later. A number of perfectly worked efforts from Harry were disallowed due to the linesman’s flag being raised, with Lancing’s players struggling to find the Horsham goal due the consistent back three of Zac, Ryan and Harrison. Midfielder Dylan soon found the net with a thunderous shot that beat the onlooking goalkeeper and then, five minutes later, Charlie Little was one-on-one with the goalkeeper who unselfishly slid Tom in to complete his second hat-trick of the season.
Horsham went in to half-time having scored four goals and knowing they would be battling the wind along with the opposition in the second half. A change in formation kept the advancing lancing team at bay and, with both sets of players suffering from the elements, striker Dan collected the ball just over the halfway line, muscled the defenders out of his way, and found the top corner of the Lancing goal for the visitors” fifth.
The Hornets face Worthing Dynamos next week at home.
