Horsham U13’s entertained Rustington Otters for this important test in the league campaign.
Horsham took the game to Rustington early on but could not convert the chances into goals. Rustington settled and soon created chances of their own, but Monty was in fine form keeping them at bay. The game was finely balanced, until Horsham’s Finley burst into the box only to be fouled by the Rustington goalkeeper earning The Hornets a penalty kick, up stepped Luke Harrison to calmly fire the spot kick home 1-0, going into half time.
Rustington forced the pace in the second half, more lively and hungry which resulted in them drawing level early on, catching Horsham on the back foot and when the young hornets switched off at a short corner Otters took the lead. However Horsham dug deep and soon created chances to draw level, but could not get that vital touch goal wards. With only minutes left Luke Harrison played a delightful pass into the path of Nathan Jones, who calmly slotted the ball past the Rustington keeper, to earn a valuable point and deserved draw from the game!
Manager Paul Brown was in a reflective mood after the match, “for chunks of the game we were second best! Not strong enough or quick enough when it mattered and unable to put instructions into practice. What pleased us, were the lads who took the situation by the scruff of the neck, made positional changes allowing Nathan Jones to scare their defenders with his pace and presence. We now move onto next week where we will put right certain points and hopefully get the boys firing on all cylinders again!”
