The final weekend of the youth season brought celebration and commiseration for the Hornets on a blisteringly hot bank holiday Sunday at Southwater Leisure Centre. Our U16s had the early kick-off but even at 10 o’clock the sun was beating down so they knew it was going to be a hot one. Up against a physical Rustington Otters side, Horsham worked hard to overcome their opponents and took the three points courtesy of goals from Jake Relleen and Louis Hartley that ensured they avoided the drop into Division B. .
From the fear of relegation to the battle for promotion; a place in Division A was at stake as the U13 Greens hosted Worthing Town White with the winners joining champions Littlehampton Town in the Arun & Chichester League top flight next season. Despite having beaten the same opponents 2-0 last weekend, it was the seasiders who found the breakthrough just ten minutes from the end of a good competitive match and added a second towards the end to take the victory. Greens manager Ian Scott was bitterly disappointed for the lads, who had worked so hard over the season, but couldn’t praise them enough for all their commitment and hard work and was proud of how they had given everything over the season and on the day.
