Arun & Chichester League Division A

Horsham were quick out of the blocks in a game they needed to win to maintain hopes of a top two league finish. The home side scored in the first two minutes when a bobbly cross from Joe Simpkin led to a simple tap-in for Zain Beg. Chichester hit back with an equally fortunate equaliser, five minutes later, but Horsham continued to press forward and retook the lead courtesy of an own goal that led much to the great play of captain Sammy Henderson. However, the visitors didn’t lie down and struck again before half time.

In the second half, Horsham were better organised defensively, with Ben Embling putting in a strong performance at right-back.Β This allowed the midfield to push on, leading to several goal-scoring opportunities. Zain, Nico Massimo and Sammy all went close to hitting the target before Henderson took his second chance, driving home a low shot to the right corner.

Chichester continued to fight but a string of fine saves from Will Scurr, with a little help from the crossbar, saw Horsham maintain a slender lead. A final late opportunity sealed the game when Henderson fired across the face of goal and Beg was on-hand once again to strike home.

Horsham: Will Scurr, Tom Matthews, Max Morris, Lewis Bridle, Ben Embling, Charlie Gibson, Sammy Henderson, Joe Stevens, Joe Simpkin, Nico Massimo, Zain Beg.

Subs: Josh Buttle, Isaac Small
