Arun & Chichester League Challenge Cup Quarter-Final
Horsham’s two U13 sides were pitted against each other in the quarter finals of the Challenge Cup at Gorings Mead. Tensions were running high from the kick-off, but an unstoppable early penalty from captain Sam Henderson eased the nerves for Horsham Amber. The second came courtesy of an own goal and there was added misfortune for Horsham Green as ‘keeper Louis Masters received a nasty injury after clashing with an Amber striker and needed to be replaced. With Amber dominant in possession, more opportunities followed and strikers Zain Beg and Zach Barnett both finished well before Henderson claimed his second with a delightful looping shot to make it 5-0. Horsham Green kept battling and grabbed one back through Sam McMinn, after capitalising on a rare fumble at the back. However, Henderson soon restored the five-goal cushion and bagged his hat-trick in the process with a fierce low drive.
Amber produced some excellent passing football, despite Green’s valiant efforts to compete. The team’s sixth goal typified a fine team performance, as a surging run from centre back Max Morris initiated a series of quick, quality passes among several players, resulting in a brilliant finish by winger Max Warren. Second half substitute Nico Massimo continued his impressive run of goal scoring form by bagging a brace, with a tap-in from Beg’s assist and a quality header. Another excellent team goal provided Beg with his second and a final flourish saw Ben Embling score with a clinical left footed effort with the last kick of the game. Horsham Amber move on to a mouth-watering clash with rivals Rustington Otters in the semi-finals.
