Arun & Chichester League Division A
Horsham Youth U12 welcomed Worthing Town Blue to Southwater, which had survived an early pitch inspection following Storm Brian, and started brightly. Having now adapted to our new shape, the squad had to overcome positional changes for some of the players but the early chances were created by the Hornets. Worthing soon got themselves into the game but Monty, in the Horsham goal, made a couple of terrific saves to keep them out. It was Horsham who broke the deadlock when some strong play from Frankie Mills, in the middle of the park, allowed him to find Denis wide left. He crossed early and found Stan, who managed to control the loose ball and stab it home after his first shot was parried. The game became end to end and after Worthing had had another shot collected by Monty, he quickly threw the ball out to Theo Brown. He found Jack New in the centre of the park and he slipped the ball forward to Frankie Mills, who powered into the box to finish across the ‘keeper. Horsham were now 2-0 up and took this lead into half-time.
The second half saw Worthing come at Horsham more, trying to get back into the game, but our back three of Finley, Theo and Cameron held strong. They were supported in their defensive efforts by Raul and Denis and, as the half drew on, Horsham started to create more chances. Frankie Mills was dominating the midfield and was assisted by Jack New who kept playing the ball through to a rotating forward line of Jasper Butterfill and Stan Berry. Unfortunately they could not get on the scoresheet in the second half and the game finished 2-0 to Horsham.
Coach Ross Butterfill, had this to say “The lads were trying too hard early on to find long passes, allowing Worthing opportunities on our goal. However, after we instructed them to play the ball on the floor, find shorter passes, we started to dominate and this was proved by our two goals, especially our second that started with Monty, our keeper. The ball was played from our box to theirs with some slick passing and a great finish by Frankie..”
