Arun & Chichester League Division A
Horsham U16 were at home to the league leaders Worthing Utd on another bright Sunday morning. After no allocation of a referee, a local referee stepped into to help out, which was greatly appreciated.
The match was played at a good tempo and both sides played some good football, with Worthing United looking a little sharper but neither side really had any clear cut chances. When Horsham did threaten, the United ‘keeper was quick to spot any danger in the final third so, after a cagey affair, it was 0-0 at half-time.
Team talks done and changes made in the Horsham squad, a short pass found the Hornets defence in trouble with a through ball into the back of the net which stunned the team and before you knew it they were 2-0 down. The management changed things around and Horsham settled again but Worthing’s winger was a handful and when the home side failed to deal with the danger, United scored their third. Worthing didn’t have it all their own way as, towards the end of the second half, the Hornets had chances but just didn’t quite connect. Then, as they pushed for a consolation goal, Worthing broke as Horsham lost possession and with a nice weighted pass scored again to make the final scoreline Horsham 0 Worthing Utd 4.
It was a disappointing result for the lads today but I’m sure they will bounce back as they go into the County Cup with a long trip to Hastings Utd in next week’s first round tie.
