Arun & Chichester League Division A

Last year’s Under 12s champions Horsham Amber began their league campaign with a disappointing home defeat to Rustington Otters at Goring’s Mead. Horsham ‘keeper Will Scurr made a string of fine saves before Amber took the lead against the run of play, when Max Warren’s drilled cross was diverted into the net by an unfortunate Otters defender. Joe Simpkin doubled Horsham’s lead with a predatory finish following a smart exchange with Joe Stevens. However, it was otherwise an afternoon of few chances for the prolific striker. Rustington deservedly struck back just before half time and maintained the pressure after the break to take a 3-2 lead. They then added two quick-fire strikes, including one from the spot, despite second half ‘keeper George Edgley’s best efforts. Horsham’s Max Morris, who impressed throughout in the centre of defence, turned goal provider as he set free Max Warren to score a brilliant solo effort. But faint hopes of a comeback were quashed when Otters completed a 6-3 victory with a stylish finish.
