Horsham U12 Greens 2 Barnham Trojans 4
Arun & Chichester League Division A
Horsham scorers: Zach (32′), Dan (59′)
Another disappointing result and a performance that saw plenty of effort, but somewhat lacking composure on the ball and little in the way of effective passing. The opening spell saw both sides evenly balanced, although few direct threats on either goal. The defence of Tate Stowell, Joel Simmons and Rupert Gray were alert from the start. A couple of fast breaks by Barnham required Louis Masters to make two good saves from close range. Meanwhile both Ghyll Bowen and Jay Cunnell had chances at the other end, but couldn’t get their shots away fast enough.
Barnham took the lead in the 22nd minute when another quick break provided their winger a sight of goal and his finish from distance was impressive, flying into the top right corner and leaving Louis no chance. The rest of the half was again evenly balanced. The Greens looked most threatening when putting together passing moves, but not often enough to build any real momentum.

Horsham hit back early in the second half. A free-kick from just inside the Horsham half was repelled by Barnham. Dan Woodward collected the ball a second time and launched a long ball forward. The bounce deceived the Barnham keeper and Zach Barnett continued his run to force the ball home at the second attempt.
With the score even again, it was disappointing that the boys let their concentration drop. Barnham scored three times in quick succession, in the 38th, 44th and 45th minutes, in each case benefiting from static positioning and ball watching within the area. The boys did fight back and Dan made space on the right wing and let fly a superb long range shot, beating the Barnham keeper from distance, but it was too late to change the overall result.
