Horsham Youth U11 3 Chichester City U11 2
Date: 12.03.2017

After a break of several weeks, it was a pleasure to welcome Chichester City to Southwater for this development game against opponents whom we played in our very first match of this 2016/2017 season. Similar to our last meeting, Horsham started brightly, on a difficult pitch, and created a few early chances but it was Chichester who broke the deadlock, ten minutes into the half, with a well taken goal. This young Horsham side battled back, started to find their passes, and equalised very quickly when Cameron Cox slipped Jasper Butterfill through on goal to beat the Chichester keeper. However, some poor communication from the yellows saw Chichester steal the lead again, making it 2-1. Horsham stepped up again, their passing got cleaner and were stronger in the challenges, showing that they believed in getting back into the match, and some good work in the midfield saw the ball played out wide to Charlie Brown, who played a quick ball into the feet of Stan Berry who hit it first time into the top corner to send the teams into the break on level terms.

The second half was a bit more frantic, as both teams created chances and could have taken the lead but the defences held firm to keep each other at bay. It would take something special to break the deadlock and this came from Horsham. Some more good work from the midfield saw the ball played forward into Danny White, who got the ball out of his feet to strike the ball into the bottom corner. Both teams kept playing good football but Horsham stood firm, maintaining the lead to see the game out, for a well-earned 3-2 win.

The coaching staff praised the young lads after this good win. “We have seen the boys develop over our run of thirteen games. We lost 2-1 against this team, right at the start of the season, so to get the win this time proves we have worked hard to turn things around. The lads listened today and, with so many changes to positions, it was a pleasure to watch and we hope they can take this further during the remaining parts of this season”
