Selsey U15 1 Horsham 4
Arun & Chichester League
Date: 12.02.17

Horsham Youth U15 made their way to a very cold Selsey, in a top of the table clash.  Horsham started brightly and soon went a goal up through Ryan Atalay, who scored from a knock back into the area by skipper Callum Jones. The game was scrappy, on a smaller sized pitch than normal, but the yellows played some good football, finding their passes and knocking the ball into space. It was from a corner that Horsham scored their second when a good ball in from Max Laker saw Callum head the ball home. Horsham could have had more goals but Selsey kept making some last ditch tackles to prevent the score getting away from them so it remained 0-2 to Horsham at half time.

The second half started in a similar fashion, Selsey being strong and physical in the challenges but the young Hornets playing a calm, measured game and after some great passing Jake Relleen extend the lead by scoring a third goal. The slight wind started to play a part in the match and Selsey could not adjust to the ball carrying over them and, likewise, Horsham could not judge the ball dropping shorter. It was from this that Selsey found a way back into the game, their striker reading the ball well and managing to get the ball into the Horsham net. Game on! However, Horsham made some changes and from these the team started to press higher up the pitch, applying pressure on the Selsey players and forcing them into making hasty decisions. It was from this pressure that saw a back pass beat the Selsey ‘keeper and sneak over the line for an own goal, taking the score to 1-4 in Horsham’s favour and game over. The match played out with no more goals, allowing Horsham to run out winners in this very important league match, to stay unbeaten and top of the table.
