Horsham U11 2 Lancing United Colts 3
Arun & Chichester League
Date: 08.01.2017

Horsham’s U11s welcomed Lancing United Colts to Southwater Leisure Centre for their first match of 2017. Horsham started really brightly, with some good passing behind the Lancing lines along with good, strong, tackles to win the ball back. This early pressure was rewarded when Jasper Buterfill won the ball in the midfield and some nice possession play saw the ball slipped out wide to Charlie Brown who delivered a superb cross that found the onrushing Jack Willis who buried into the Lancing net. The match then became end to end, with both teams having further opportunities to score, but with none being taken it was Horsham who led 1-0 at half-time.

The second half saw Horsham start slowly and this allowed Lancing the opportunity to get back in it, pulling the game back to  1-1. This should have woken Horsham up but it was Lancing who grabbed their second to go into the lead. Horsham started to get back in it, despite some niggling injuries, and the young Hornets started to find their rhythm again but as they pushed forward in search of an equaliser,  it was Lancing who capitalised. Colts broke away from a Horsham attack and scored a good goal to extend their lead to 3-1. Horsham did not give up and started to batter the Lancing goal, but their keeper denied most attacks. However, the hosts’ passing game got better and Finley Duneclift found himself in a perfect position to beat the keeper, foing well to reduce the deficit to a single goal. However, Lancing were strong enough to hold on to this score line to win 2-3

Manager Paul Brown was pleased with the Horsham effort “the boys played really well for periods. It was our first game back and tiredness saw us lose shape for twenty minutes and that allowed Lancing to get back into the game and take it away from us. When we pass like we did early and late on we will cause most teams problems”.
