Arun & Chichester League (Winter Cup – Fraser League)
Date: 04-12-2016

Horsham Youth U11s had an afternoon kick off against table topping Bognor Regis Town Youth Green in a fixture that could have a bearing on the Winter Cup Fraser league.

The game was an extremely cagey affair with both teams looking for any opening, this was tough as both defences stood firm. There were only a few chances for both sides but none were converted and the first half finished goalless. The second half was very similar to the first but as the game wore on more chances were created but the defending for both sides was the difference, stopping most attempts. For Horsham, Alfie Maguire was protected by his defence of Cameron Cox, Nathan Jones and skipper Jack New. Both wingbacks assisted with their defensive duties but even the manager could not conjure the magic to gain the three points for Horsham. The attackers were rotated between Charlie Brown, Jack Willis and Jasper Butterfill and all created chances but could not convert the limited opportunities into goals. This was a thrilling match but it concluded at 0-0, a point earned not two points dropped.

Manager Paul Brown was full of praise for the squad. “The lads were very mature today. It was a difficult game to manage the squad but they all played their part, worked well in their positions and showed a level of game management that normally comes with age.”
Captain, Jack New, added “the team acted on our instructions to start winning the first ball and to get touch tight. We were much better in the second half with these changes”

Horsham: Alfie Maguire, Nathan Jones, Cameron Cox, Jack New (capt), Danny White, Finlay Duneclift, Denis Light, Jasper Butterfill, Charlie Brown  Subs: Jack Willis, Stan Berry, Theo Brown

The Horsham spectators voted for the Dominoes Man of the Match, and the vote was close between two players. The winner was Cameron Cox. However, he was extremely professional and advised that he wanted to award the pizza to skipper Jack New, who offered a defensive performance that allowed him to perform at that level!
