Horsham U11s 8 Felpham Colts 1
Arun & Chichester League (Winter Cup – Fraser Cup)
Horsham Youth U11 welcomed Felpham Colts to Southwater Leisure Centre on this Remembrance Sunday fixture, where players, coaches and spectators paid respects with a well-observed minute silence. The young Hornets started the game quickly, finding their passes and were soon 1-0 up as Jack Willis fired home after a fine cross by Dennis Light. Horsham kept pressing but could not beat a determined keeper until the 15th minute when Jack grabbed his and Horsham’s second. On twenty minutes, some great work between Finlay Duneclift and Jack New allowed Stan Berry to snatch our third goal, making it 3-0. Horsham looked comfortable but were undone with a quick counter attack from Felpham as a Horsham corner was cleared and the blues grabbed a goal just before half time.
The coaches had some encouraging words during the interval, which allowed the yellows to get a fourth goal, three minutes into the second half, when Stan grabbed his second of the game. It was not until the 45th minute that the hornets got their fifth when a throw in found its way to Charlie Brown who got on the score sheet for the first of his treble. It only took two more minutes for Charlie to grab his second, and Horsham’s sixth goal, when he smashed the ball in from the edge of the box. The young yellows kept going, passing well and eventually drawing a foul on the edge of the Felpham box; it was down to Charlie to blast the ball into the top corner for his hat trick. As the second half drew to a close, Jasper Butterfill grabbed an eighth goal for Horsham as he finished another great move when the ball was crossed into the box for him to stab home, making the final score 8-1 to the young Hornets.
The coaching staff praised the boys for the way they continued to play their passing game. “The lads did well. Even when we changed positions they kept a focus on what we are trying to achieve. There was a small period in the first half when the changes disrupted our shape, allowing Felpham to score a breakaway goal, but we managed to balance the side again allowing us to kick on and dominate possession.”
