Shoreham suffered an afternoon to forget when, following the harrowing events at the town’s famous Air Show a few hours earlier, their football club were swept aside by a rampant Horsham who recorded their biggest winning margin in eight years. Goalless after half an hour, the dismissal of Shoreham’s Dimitri Larin handed the initiative to the home side and Kieron Pamment exacted immediate punishment by firing home the opener via a deflected free-kick. Goals either side of the break by Darren Boswell and Pamment made it 3-0 before Ash Jones and Jake Chadwick chipped in with a goal apiece to end the scoring.
Boswell had earlier struck a post twice in the same attack, and Musselmen ‘keeper Nick Taylor frequently came to his side’s rescue including a second half penalty save from Scott Murfin. Shoreham’s response was restricted to a handful of attempts but Gareth Williams stood firm to register a third successive shut-out.
It was, though, a day when football took a back seat as our prayers go out to all those affected by this afternoon’s tragic accident.
