Members of the Horsham FC Committee visited Strawfords Day Care Centre this week to see how our entry into Horsham District Council and the Rotary Club’s 2015 fundraiser, ‘Elephantastic’, was coming along and they were delighted with the results.
Thanks to a generous contribution from some of our supporters, the Club is one of more than sixty local businesses, groups, organisations and even celebrities who have ‘adopted’ an elephant for this increasingly popular initiative that seeks to raise money for a variety of local causes as well as helping to increase the focus on the town itself.
Just as we did with Titch the Giraffe, two years ago, we asked our good friends at Strawfords to smarten her up and we’re told that they really enjoyed decorating the pachyderm, even electing to give her a name; Esmeralda. Howie the Hornet went along to meet those responsible and proved to be a popular visitor on what was a gloriously sunny day, posing for photographs and getting plenty of cuddles!
Esmeralda will be among those on display throughout Horsham town centre during the summer holidays, with bids being taken for her and all the other colourful creations, and you can keep an eye on events at the Elephantastic Facebook page. Anyone who can’t wait until then will be able to meet Esmeralda at Sunday’s Sparks in the Park event where she will take pride of place at the club’s stand, from midday onwards.
The club would like to thank the staff and residents at Strawfords for their hard work, and to committee members Pawz Morvik, Paul Ockenden and Joe ‘Howie’ Clarke for giving their time to ensure the morning was a great success.
The Strawfords Centre is the long-standing dedicated charity of Horsham Independent Supporters’ Club (HISC) who have raised much needed funds over the years and who, along with Horsham Football Club, are proud to continue this special relationship for many years to come.
